Christmas Prep

Many things on the go at the moment.  We were hit with a bout of colds earlier in the month, and a persistent cough is all that I have left of it.

In the meantime, Christmas preparations are underway.  Our tree is up, but instead of posting a boring picture of it standing alone, I shall wait until Evie is awake and dressed nicely, and put her in front of it.  Hmmm, in the past, I seem to have had difficulty with this sort of thing.....

Not one but BOTH boys were crying!

That picture is from the "Mommy Dearest" files.

Also, at our house, we've had some company from Australia, and so did a pre-Christmas dinner with them, amongst other Canadian winter rituals (a lot of sledding).  Sean organized a musical presentation, based on the one that his class did at school, and our family presented that, to much amusement.  (Towels and blankets made up the "curtain" and we had about a foot of room in behind to hide until the performance).  Then he played his concert song "Jolly Old St. Nicholas"  on the piano.  One thing about Sean; he never gets nervous before he has to perform, and doesn't seem to care whether he is going to make a mistake or not.  The final performance was perfect though.

The Aussie girls, aged 14 and 11, have been marvelous babysitters, readily taking Evie under their wing.  For example, they did her hair one day (it hardly stayed in any longer than when I do it; she loves to have it done, but equally enjoys ripping everything out!).

We also had the kids build a gingerbread house, which didn't get to see much life after it was done!  (Burp).

As far as Evie's reactions to the Christmas tree, so far it has been favourable.  She "helped" hang a few ornaments, and periodically changes them around.  There was a bit of a tussle with Sean over a pretty snowglobe ornament that he brought home from school (a gift from his EA), but Sean very kindly let her handle it for a bit, and then we hung it up fairly high.

The presents under the tree (yes I do live dangerously) have mostly survived, save for the two that she opened yesterday.  (They were Bob's, and thankfully Skyler managed to salvage and rewrap them).

And the only other outing has been a quick trip up to Ottawa to check out the lights on Parliament Hill!

So until next time, we wish you all a marvelous and blessed Christmas!
