Remembrance Day, Sean Style

Sean likes to have ceremonies and events at home that mimic what they do at school.

So we had to have our own Remembrance Day ceremony, albeit on the 12th of November.

He spent a lot of time in preparation....or rather Evie and I did....

Evie and Mom making poppies for the cross.  Bob also got into things, helping Sean build a wooden cross for our wreaths (which happened to be Xmas wreaths, recruited for the purpose of Remembrance Day).

The stage is set.  So Sean has us assemble, Bob and Evie and myself (Sky was unfortunate enough to miss it), and we began.  "First," Sean announces, "we will watch a movie about Remembrance Day."  He then set up a flashlight to shine on the opposite wall, and made it flicker, like an old-time movie projector, or more likely, like the projector at school.

He began to narrate: "At 11:00, hahehahehaheha, bla bla bla, ha hem haa..." and went on for a few minutes with his version of what he'd heard on the movie at school (ie. nothing much; interesting to see what penetrates his brain), then started with the music, humming a solemn sort of tune that Bob says he remembers from somewhere.  (No, not The Last Post; that comes later).  This went on for a few minutes, Bob and I rolling our eyes from time to time.  One can't deviate from the program or the resulting upset will be harder to deal with then just sitting still for it, so we've learned from many previous "celebrations".

I believe this was during the silence...you can see what incredibly patient and good parents we are, as we try not to openly laugh at our son's antics.  Well not too openly anyways.

Once the movie was done, it was time for The Last Post.  "Everyone bow your heads", Sean asks and then gets out.....a New Years party horn and blatts on it for a few minutes, his version of the solemn (as solemn as one can make a New Years party horn) Last Post.  Bob and I are really trying not to laugh noticeably at this point, but it was a struggle.

After this we had our couple of minutes of silence, then it was picture time and the laying of the wreaths.

Please don't notice the Saturday-morning-unwashed-hair look.

Then Sean noticed a smear on the corner of the camera lens, but we weren't too successful in getting it off for the last shot...too bad, it would have been a nice one.  I include it anyways, just use your imagination.

Whew, another Sean Event done.  Now to get ready for Christmas.....he's already got plans underway....one can't say we lead an uninteresting life!

Now time to go wash my hair....
