Here are the boys getting the site prepared to their satisfaction. Skyler is chopping some wood up for the fire (no burn ban on at the time, thankfully; the fire is a MAJOR part of my little pyromaniacs lives when we camp), and Sean is setting up all of his tiki torches. He keeps them lit daytime and night, when we're at the site, and he even made his own wee firepit separate from the main one.
Here he is teaching his little sister the finer points of pyromania. Do I freak out when I see this? No, not anymore. We talk about the safety issues. The worst thing we've had happen was last year, when Skyler left his hot metal marshmallow roasting stick on the ground and Sean stepped on it in the dark. He had a nice brand on the sole of his foot for awhile.
Dining in style.
We brought the canoe and trolling motor along. No, Bob is not drinking a beer! Evie enjoys tooting around in any kind of boat, but had a little mishap with Daddy later on this day. Both were leaning out the same side and the canoe flipped. Thankfully they were quite close to shore and Bob could rescue Evie quickly, and his trolling motor also. It goes without saying that she had her lifevest on, and it wasn't a bad experience for her overall. At least she now knows that she has to be more careful in the canoe. She was a little timid about getting into it again, but that was to be expected.
Lola could probably learn this also!
A fantastic moonrise one night.
A little rain the day we left. Goodbye site, till next year!
