The last days of 2012 kayaking...I think.

We had a couple of nice days this fall in which to get out on the river/lake in the kayak again.  The first week of school saw Evie and I go out for lunch one day to a local island.  Beautiful.  It was still warm enough to wear bathing suits, but the water was a little cool for swimming.

Here she is setting up our picnic blanket.  It had to be just perfect.

She looks so grown-up to me here...no more little baby face!

Shortly after that though, the weather cooled down considerably but we still managed another day on the water with a friend....we've been trying to do this with her all summer and this was the day it finally worked out!  It was not a calm day on the lake and we had some wind to fight, but found a lovely spot to have our lunch, and had an easy paddle back with the wind at our backs.

A sheltered spot.

Just don't notice that little sign in the background....

So nice to take advantage of the last nice days.  (Drink up!)

I am happy that Evie still is excited to go out in the kayak with me.  She is happy to drag sticks in the water, have snacks, chat with me, and even fall asleep, usually with one arm dragging in the water.

We managed another outing this past week, but the day turned cloudy and the wind picked up, so it was shorter than I'd have liked.  She loves the waves, and the river really gives some fun with currents and roiling waters, but it's not as much fun when that water is cold.  I hate to say the kayaking season is done, but unless we get a freakishly calm and sunny day, on a day that I happen to be free, this may just be it for 2012.
